Dr. Akhila is an alumnus from St. John’s Medical College and Bangalore Medical College. She also did her Fellowship in Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrics from Indian Academy of Paediatrics Chapter of Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics at Centre for Child Development And Disabilities, Bangalore and Certificate Course in Adolescent Health at Dr DY Patil Medical College Hospital and Research Center.

She has presented a paper titled " Social and Emotional Learning Program Among Preschool Children." which won the Dr. Bophiah Award for Social Paediatrics in 2019 and her paper on Socio Emotional Learning was selected for James Fleet Social Paediatrics Award by IAP - 2021. It was also published in Indian Pediatrics, Volume 58- June 15, 2021.Part of position paper on Early child Development- Indian Academy of Paediatrics 2021.
